The Square has gone through many changes over the years but in the 1960s in was a very busy area during the business day. Merchants included; New China Inn, Sorrentos, Point Terrace Restaurant and Bar, The Hut Lunch shop, Arcade Bar, Nickolss Better Tea & Coffe, Rhea's Bakery, Oyster House, and Diamond Market.
